Calm Your Own Storm

We’ve all been there. Overwhelmed. Frustrated. Heavy-hearted. And in those moments, it’s tempting—almost automatic—to pick up the phone and vent to someone. We think if we “let it all out,” we’ll feel better. And maybe, for a minute, we do. But here’s the truth: constantly venting can actually keep us stuck in a cycle of negativity.

Here’s the hard pill to swallow:

It’s no one else’s job to fix your storm. It’s yours.

Stop Giving Away Your Power

Every time you rely on someone else to calm you down, validate your feelings, or tell you what to do next, you’re giving away your power. Healing and peace can’t be outsourced. They have to be cultivated within.

That doesn’t mean you can’t lean on your people from time to time. But if you’re constantly pouring your chaos onto others without doing the work yourself, you’re not growing—you’re just reinforcing the storm.

How to Calm Your Own Storm:

Journal. Get it out on paper. Write raw, honest truths that no one has to edit or judge.

Meditate. Sit with yourself. Learn to quiet the noise and listen to your inner wisdom.

Move Your Body. Exercise isn’t just for your health—it’s for your healing. Sweat it out, walk it off, lift yourself up.

Release. Cry. Scream into a pillow. Dance it out. But let it move through you instead of staying stuck in you.

Self-Regulation Is Self-Respect

No one’s coming to save you. And that’s not a bad thing—that’s empowerment. You’re stronger than you think. You have everything you need inside you to pull yourself up and move forward.

And when you do that? When you realize you’re the calm in your own storm? That’s where your true power lives.
